How to Post More Consistently…By Posting LESS?

If you search up the word ‘consistent’ on Google, the definition follows: “acting or done in the same way over time, especially so as to be fair or accurate”.

Notice how it doesn't say:

Constantly reinventing itself…

Creating new ideas…

Showing up 24/7…

Again, it is an action or activity done in the SAME WAY over TIME.

Everyone who has an account on social media has the lingering thought in the back of their head of “I should be posting more”, vowing to post more content, going hard for a couple days or weeks, and then burning out as the cycle continues.

This is not going to help you as the creator / marketer of your product or service because you’ll always be exhausted and it’s not going to entice your customer because they don’t know where you are half the time.

There is also the threat that trying to keep up with posting as much as possible results in posting for the sake of posting…and affecting the quality or value being provided.

This was literally the story of my life. As a student, I was yo yoing going hard in school when absolutely necessary, and trying to make up for being less present through going hard on socials on short breaks such as for the holidays. Basically, I never had a break. Late 2021 was particularly grueling with trying to balance everything and it was probably the most stressful period of my life. It got to a point where I started neglecting everything outside of school, and the pillars came crumbling.

So in 2022, I had to make a major shift. Force myself to take breaks and post LESS. EW. WHAT? This was such a foreign concept to me. Not working myself to the bone and not feeling guilty about it.

But now that I've worked out all the kinks in my content strategy, I'm finding myself able to balance a better quality of life, having my mood improved, and clients or opportunities coming to ME more naturally.

And I’d love to give you a preview of one lane that I took to start being more consistent with less posting, less engaging, and less sweating about the little things.

#1 - Figure Out the Synergy of WTF You Like Posting, And What Your Audience Enjoys From You

It sounds simple enough, we’ve heard it all before, but do we follow it? Maybe I’m speaking from personal bias, but I've done so much marketing research and yet I always forgot to actually implement not only in my services, but also in my client.

Additionally, whenever a post that I created did well, I never thought to reuse it again because I thought that I needed to be churning out fresh ideas everytime when what the people wanted was right in front of my eyes. All in all, you’re running out of content ideas because you’re trying to explore new facets of your offer when your audience might not even know about it PERIOD.

Look into your insights and find out your top 3-5 performing posts from a metric that will lead to sales. We’re not looking for the most liked posts, you should be searching for the posts that led to the most profile visits, website taps, etc. On the flip side, understand what content you’re proud to post or are actually passionate about.

I HATE doing new trend alert videos even though it’s the only videos that do well for other social media marketers. BUT, I love doing tweet quote graphics and those happen to be some of my best performing posts on Instagram, so it’s easy for me to recreate them to post often.

#2 - Develop A Long Form Content Version Of Those Ideas, and Repurpose Them Into Content

This is one KEY strategy that I’m currently loving to show up on a consistent base for my target audience, cover all social channels, and not feel like my to-do list is neverending.

Picking a form of long form content, such as a long Youtube video or blog article (HELLO!), versus a short form piece of content such as a TikTok video or IG graphic, helps alleviate the need for brainstorming content because the larger piece of content becomes the focal point.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, make up a new series, or jump on trends for clout to post something throughout the week. You can just create small bites of the long form piece throughout all your social channels without even thinking.

For example, I made it a goal to focus on my blog over posting on Instagram everyday. I’ve written 7 articles so far and created some filler content (such as the quote tweets) and started to repurpose each one into a carousel post. I published the first one in January, and I've only repurposed 2-3 and it’s now June. I’ve never been the person to struggle with finding content ideas, but once in a while I would have a moment, now it just never happens.

And even better, I have more creative energy to have an extra idea for a post here and there, and I collect them in my content bank to create in between. But because my long form is so much of really rich content that’s value packed, I have all these other content ideas piling for if I EVER have a content drought.

Creating long form content also has its perks outside of alleviating the need to brainstorm content. Blogs, Youtube videos, or Pins have a longer shelf life, thereby reaching even more people over time with little effort. Which can turn into hot leads ready to buy your product or service without lifting a FINGER.

I repurposed a Youtube video into a TikTok, which I then repurposed into an Idea Pin, and it ended up going viral WEEKS LATER. Now my Pinterest is booming with 11K monthly views, that are leading to my website, my other social platforms, and to my services!! Again, I did not lift a finger. That momentum is invaluable compared to all the hard work you’ve been putting into platforms like Instagram where the return is UNKNOWN.

#3 - Set A Realistic Schedule and POST!

Again, this is another common factoid or narrative spread within the social media world, but does anyone really do it? Is it ever really enough to post once a day? YES IT IS. Infact, POST LESS based on what you can do.

If you're putting more energy into these pieces of long form content, you’ll find that the value will speak for itself. By posting less, you’ll have more energy or downtime to create better content, and then put out better performing content, which will generate sales, which will give you even more time or financial freedom for the life you wish to create. Now that is a cycle I can get behind!

Is posting everyday truly worth it for you? Are you getting customers frequently based on each post? Or even reflect on what your customer to post ratio is. Roughly how many posts does it take for you to attract a lead as of right now? If it’s taking you 20-100+ posts why are you killing yourself when it could be 5-15+ rich posts.

Additionally, some social media algorithms even might work to your benefit from frequent breaks. For example, try not posting on your Instagram stories for 24 hours. You’ll notice that after not posting for a day your newest story post will easily get 100+ views.

This is because the algorithm refreshes your position on the ranking of stories that pop up first for your followers and will often push you to the forefront after taking such a long break because they think your followers would want to know that you have posted after a while. As well as enticing you to stay on the app longer by boosting your story a bit for that vanity validation.

Therefore, have a strategy in place that doesn't revolve around QUANTITY of posts. There’s no point (In my opinion).

Doesn't this all feel MORE approachable, MORE easier to implement, MORE motivating, and MORE fulfilling than your current content strategy? And this is just one approach when it comes to social media content strategies.

Would you try this strategy? What do you do to stay more consistent on your social platforms? Let me know!
