WHY TikTok In 2022?

When TikTok first launched in 2016, it was heralded as a kid’s app for silly routines, highly saturated vlogs, and the birth of the VSCO Girl movement. Fast forward to the worldwide pandemic in 2020, and the app has now skyrocketed to an integral part of our culture.

Need a new recipe for dinner? TikTok.

What’s the biggest song right now? TikTok.

How did this product sell out at every dollar store? TikTok.

How are slime businesses a thing? TikTok.

TikTok has become a societal pillar for music, culture, food, sports, travel, beauty, and now BUSINESS. Everyone has seen first hand or at least knows someone who’s searched up a product at their favourite retailer and seen that the product was sold out from the impact of a TikTok video.

The impact has even spread noticeably to other platforms such as Instagram with IG Reels, Pinterest with Idea Pins, and Youtube with Youtube Shorts. Short form video has become the new norm, and every person is dying to go viral because it’s actually worth it.

TikTok can be an excellent app for marketing your business through social media content, building an audience of loyal customers, and making a profitable ecommerce business model.

#1 - TikTok’s Stripped Back Social Culture

The reason why TikTok has truly excelled so much is because of the laid back culture of the app. We’re used to seeing highly polished videos on platforms such as IG or Youtube with edited gifs popping up every 3 seconds and glamorous filming locations for a simple makeup tutorial.

Then on TikTok we have people in their sweats on the couch making a PB&J sandwich talking about their conspiracy theory for the next Stranger Things season. No effort, no crazy effects, just the person talking in their home on a deep topic that they’re passionate about.

The difference is astounding. Basically, anything goes on the app, and if people have interest, GREAT! TikTok is now the go-to app for raw, authentic videos for entertainment or education purposes.

Don’t believe me? Google is reporting the shift in itself! They reported in their data that 40% of Gen Z prefers using TikTok and Instagram for search over Google, according to Google's internal data.

#2 - Your Content Actually Gets Seen

Since TikTok is still technically “new” or at least in its prime, it has hit the sweet spot that Instagram was once in from 2015-2018. While the algorithm has changed and it’s not as easy to go instantly viral, it still feels seamless or effortless to get a solid viewership on videos.

You’ll find that on TikTok you’ll see more of a return on the videos that you work hard on and take the time out of your day to film.

#3 - TikTok Is Very User Friendly

The app has very simple features for anyone to use, with a familiar ‘tab’ layout, and two different video pages to see the videos from people you follow, and suggested videos on the ‘for you page’.

There are obviously lots of features on the back end for creators and business owners, but let’s just say they’re not known for rolling out features every 2 weeks that no one asked for like the other app…

#4 - Content Creation Doesn't Require Much Thought

Again, because of the stripped down culture of TikTok, your content will rely more on what you’re saying versus the other bells and whistles.

The usual practices such as good lighting and a clear camera apply, but it doesn't have to be groundbreaking. I amassed over 90K+ followers with just my phone and natural light from my window!

And there’s no need to spend time anymore wondering “how can I make a cute carousel?”, you can film videos on the go, while you’re cooking, etc.

PLUS, once you have the video published you now have the easy option to repurpose your video archive without re editing or resizing the content!

#5 - Anyone Can Be on TikTok

Finally, TikTok users tend to prefer the underdogs, the outcasts, and polarizing opinions. Just look at the difference between your Reels feed and your TikTok feed.

5 second videos of vlogs versus 3 minute story times or VERY niche informational sessions. Pointing to text versus actual re-enactments/hilarious skits.

People want to see YOU, your story, your everyday life, your struggles, and more.

So there is potential to reach whatever intended target audience that you’re hoping to reach on TikTok. As long as the content is valuable and enticing, you can’t lose.
